Guy in the chair next to me at my barber in Omaha said he tips his barber $40 every visit, now I'm doing math on my own chair time
Was sitting in the chair at my shop in Omaha last Tuesday waiting on a shape up and the guy next to me starts talking to his barber about tips. He says he drops an extra $40 on top of a $35 cut because his barber is the only person who touches his head and he wants to be remembered. I did the math in my head on the drive home: if I get a cut every 2 weeks, that's $70 a month on top of the $35, which is more than I spend on gas for the truck. Thing is, I get why he does it. When someone remembers your name and your fade without asking, that's worth something. Curious if any of you guys have regulars who tip like that, or if you've ever had a client bump their tip after a conversation like this. Does it change how you treat that chair or is it just nice to have?

$40 tip on a $35 cut? That's more than the cut itself, every single time. I can't wrap my head around dropping that kind of cash just so a guy remembers your fade.
