Found out my clipper blades last 40% longer when I stop using that spray-on coolant

Saw a study from a barber supply blog that said the alcohol in those sprays dries out the metal and dulls the edge faster, so I switched to just wiping down with a dry rag and my $80 set of Wahl blades has held up through 3 months of Saturdays without needing a sharpening, anyone else ditch the spray for dry wiping?

My old barber back in Chicago, guy named Sal, swore by a different trick. He kept his clippers in a little box of rice overnight, said it pulled the moisture out better than any spray. Used the same pair of Oster 76s for maybe 15 years before he retired, and those things still cut like they were new. I tried the dry rag method on my own set after reading your post, and it actually feels smoother when I'm trimming my sons hair on Sundays. The rice thing sounds like a kitchen hack, but if it kept Sal going that long, there's probably something to it.
