Finally caved and bought a $60 pair of Japanese thinning shears after a decade of thinking they were just hype.
Used them on a thick, curly beard in Denver last week and the blend was so smooth it cut my cleanup time in half, so what other 'overpriced' tool actually lives up to the cost?

Honestly, the price on those is usually for the steel and the sharpening. A good pair is worth it. But calling them 'thinning shears' is a bit off, they're texturizing shears. Thinners take out more bulk in one spot. Texturizers like you got have more teeth and spread the removal out for that soft blend. Makes sense why it worked so well on the beard.

Wait, so I've been using the wrong name this whole time?

Yeah @carr.james, texturizing shears are a whole different tool than thinning shears...
