The pay-by-phone app I laughed at saved me from a $35 late fee

My landlord only takes checks, so I always use bill pay through my bank. Last month the payment got mailed late and I got hit with a $35 fee. My friend kept pushing this app that sends the check digitally and tracks delivery, thought it was gimmicky. It costs $5 per payment but it showed me the exact date it arrived, so I could prove it was their delay. They refunded the fee and now I use it for every rent payment. Has anyone else fought a late fee with digital proof and won?

$35 just for a late payment... that's wild honestly, my old landlord tried that same trick on me once and I had zero proof because the bank check just showed "mailed" but no date it got there. The whole thing took three weeks and a lot of angry phone calls to get my fee back. That app sounds like it's worth every penny if it shows you the exact arrival date like that. I was skeptical of stuff like that too, but now I'm kind of kicking myself for not trying it sooner. Digital proof really changes everything when you're dealing with landlords who love to blame you for their own mess.
