Remembering the Friday afternoon bank line at the old branch on Maple Street

I used to block out an hour every Friday after work to cash my check and pay bills in person, always with a stack of envelopes and a pen. The switch to direct deposit and online bill pay around 2010 meant I stopped going entirely, and that branch closed a few years later. Now I handle everything from my phone in about five minutes, but I kind of miss the routine of it all. Did your local bank branch close too, or is it still hanging on?

Oh man, the old bank line. I'd get there and it was like a social club for people who forgot how to use an ATM. The guy in front of me would be depositing a coffee can full of loose change, and the teller would have to count it all by hand. My whole lunch break, gone, just watching someone else's pennies get rolled. Now my bank is an app with a logo, and my only line is my wifi buffering.

That coffee can deposit story is too real. Did your old branch have those little lollipop jars for kids, or the free calendar from the insurance guy? Mine did, and the whole vibe just felt different. Now if my app glitches, I'm just yelling at a blank screen instead of a person who could actually fix it.
