Rant: I thought Zelle was a scam until my landlord in Denver made me use it
I always told people to stick with Venmo or cash because Zelle felt sketchy with no buyer protection and all those fraud stories. Then my new landlord in Denver said rent only through Zelle, so I set it up and sent $1,450 on a Tuesday, and it hit his account in under 10 seconds with no fee. Now I'm wondering if I was wrong about it being risky for normal person to person payments. Has anyone here had a bad experience with Zelle, or is it actually fine if you know the person?
My sister got burned on Zelle last year when someone hacked her email and drained $800 before she even noticed the alert. The bank told her the same thing yours probably would, that once it's sent it's gone, which is why it's fine for your landlord but scary for strangers. Sounds like you already figured out the trick though, which is only using it with people you actually know and trust.
