Pro tip: my credit union teller in Dayton told me to stop using my debit card for gas, and 5 months later I get it
Back in March the teller at my credit union branch on Salem Ave told me to stop swiping my debit card at the pump and use a credit card instead. I blew her off for a couple weeks, then a skimmer hit the Shell station near the base and 11 people I know got hit. The bank caught mine because I had switched, so I only lost about $6 in rewards I would have earned. Anyone else changed how they pay at the pump after something like this?
Man, I used to roll my eyes at stuff like this and figured skimmers were just a big city problem. Then my buddy got hit at a pump off 35 and it took him weeks to get his money back, so now the debit card stays in my wallet at gas stations. Six bucks in lost rewards is way better than dealing with that mess.
