Paid $120 for a same-day wire transfer, funds landed 4 hours late anyway
Needed to close on a house in Phoenix by 5pm and my bank's cutoff was noon, so I paid the rush fee at a branch in Tempe and the money didn't show until 9pm, has anyone else had luck fighting those fees when the bank misses their own deadline?

Tempe is a solid 20 miles from Phoenix, so whoever sat on that transfer probably watched the clock hit 5 and shrugged. Key thing nobody mentions is that the wire agreement in your signature usually says "best efforts" not "guaranteed by cutoff". I fought a similar fee once with Chase over a $35 charge and they refunded it in 2 days, but that was because I had the branch manager note the time I handed over the form. If you don't have that paper trail, the bank will just say the system was slow and call it a day. Next time, ask for the Fed reference number before you leave the branch, that forces them to actually track it in real time.
