Hot take: my bank's fraud alert text used to take 20 minutes to hit my phone, now it's about 3 seconds
I got skimmed at a gas station off I-80 near Toledo back in March, and the alert showed up two days later after $340 was already gone. Last week someone tried my card at a Walmart in Indiana at 6:14pm, and my phone buzzed at 6:14pm. Same bank, same card, so the only thing that changed is they must have moved to some real-time system on the back end. I called and the rep said they rolled out instant card alerts to everyone in my area around August. It saved me a headache, but it also makes me wonder why the old setup took two days to notice a charge from a state where I haven't been in years.
Why did it take them that long to flip a switch? Two days is insane when the crook is already three states away by then. Mine was the same way until this year, and now I get a text before I even finish pumping gas. It's wild that the tech existed the whole time and they just sat on it. Makes you wonder what else they're dragging their feet on.
