Hot take: I used to think cash round-ups were a gimmick, then I saw the screen at a coffee shop in Boise
I was standing behind a guy at a cafe in Boise last Saturday and watched him pay with his phone. The screen popped up asking if he wanted to round up his $4.75 latte to $5.00 for a local shelter. He tapped yes without even looking. I used to roll my eyes at round-up features, figured the bank just used them to look nice while collecting fees elsewhere. But standing there I realized that 25 cents did not change his day at all, and it added up to real money for the shelter over a whole month. Do any of you actually use round-ups, or do you turn them off the second your bank adds them?
