That $3,200 is still way too much though. Honestly banks let this slide because people just accept it. Small thing though - that dive bar probably charged you $7 total including their fee plus your bank's fee on top. Most ATMs show you the total charge before you confirm, so the $7 was likely the combined amount not separate charges. Still sucks either way. The real trick is using cash back at grocery stores or finding your own bank's ATMs. $5,000 is a crazy wake up call but maybe it saves you money in the long run.

Man that's a brutal number to hit. Last year I added up all the random fees from getting cash at gas stations and bars and it came to like $3,200 before I even realized it. The worst part was the $7 charge at a dive bar ATM just to pull out $20 because their card reader was broken, plus another $3.50 from my bank. Felt like I was getting robbed twice.
