Found out my bank was charging me $12 a month for paper statements
I was looking at my checking account fees last night trying to figure out why my balance seemed low. Turns out I've been paying $12 every single month for paper statements since like 2018. I found it buried in the fine print of a PDF they sent me back when I opened the account. That adds up to over $800 total and I had no clue. Has anyone else had this happen or is it just me being dumb for not checking sooner?

Did you ever sign up for paperless billing or did they just add it on their own? That feels like something they should have to get your thumbs up for first.

Gotta push back a little on this one, lol. I actually think it's kinda nice when companies auto-enroll you in paperless billing, as long as they tell you upfront what's happening. Saves trees, saves me from junk mail piles, and honestly who even wants to deal with paper bills these days? I get why it feels sneaky if they didn't ask first, but most places send an email or a notice saying "hey we're switching you over unless you say no." Feels like a minor thing compared to other shady stuff companies pull, you know?

Honestly, "switching you over unless you say no" is exactly how they get you. I had the same thing happen with my electric bill once, just call them up and ask for a refund of the fees, they usually cave if you push hard enough.
