Chose a local credit union over a big bank for my checking account
I opened an account at a small credit union three years ago in Portland instead of going with Chase or Bank of America. The trade-off is I don't get fancy mobile features, but I saved $180 in fees my first year alone. Has anyone else found better service at a smaller institution?

Rolled over to a credit union back in 2018 when my old bank started charging for paper statements. The difference was night and day. They actually answer the phone within two rings and I can talk to the same teller every time I walk in. No random fees for having less than $1,500. My favorite thing is they called me once to double check if a weird out of state purchase was really me. That level of care is worth way more than a fancy app.

Honestly that call about the weird purchase is gold, @angela43.
