Chat with a cashier about mobile wallets got me thinking
I was buying coffee last Tuesday and the cashier at the 7-Eleven on Broadway said she hates when people hold up the line fumbling with their phone to pay. She said cash is faster and she trusts it more. Ever since I heard that I've been wondering if we are pushing digital payments too hard when some folks just want the old way.

My buddy Mike tried paying with his phone at a food truck last summer. He stood there tapping his screen for a good two minutes while the line behind him got restless. The app kept crashing and he ended up scraping cash together from his car ashtray. The guy running the truck just shook his head and said "you kids and your gadgets" under his breath. Mike still brings it up whenever anyone mentions mobile payments. He sticks to cash now out of spite.

That story about Mike is pure gold. Tech fails always seem to happen at the worst possible moments, like when you're hungry and there's a line. Cash never crashes though, that's for sure.
