Why does nobody talk about cake layers sliding off in the car?

I spent 4 hours on a three layer chocolate cake for my sister's birthday in Portland last month. Frosted it perfectly, boxed it flat on the passenger seat, drove like a grandma through two roundabouts. Got to her place and the whole top layer had slid onto the box floor like a pancake. My sister just looked at it and went "well, at least it's still edible" and I honestly wanted to cry. I've tried cooling longer, using a cardboard round, even freezing it for 20 minutes before transport. Nothing works. Does anyone else have a method that actually keeps layers locked in place, or is this just a universal baking curse?

And my friend had the exact same thing happen with a carrot cake she made for a baby shower, except hers slid off sideways into the glove compartment when she hit a pothole. She tried everything you did, plus the straw trick through all the layers, and still ended up with a cake that looked like a landslide. Honestly I think the only real fix is to just accept the cake will arrive slightly wrecked and bring extra frosting to patch it up on site.
