The 'sour cream trick' I refused to try for 20 years finally got me
I have this chocolate cake recipe I've been making since the 90s. My sister kept telling me to swap half the milk for sour cream and I told her no thanks for about two decades. Finally tried it last month when I was out of milk and had an open tub of sour cream. The cake came out way more moist and tender than my old version. Has anyone else been stubborn about a baking change that turned out to be a real improvement?

Well, I guess after 20 years of telling your sister "no thanks," you finally had to eat crow... or sour cream, as the case may be. I had a similar standoff with my brother-in-law about adding instant coffee to chocolate cake. Told him he was crazy for years until I ran out of vanilla one day and used his stupid trick out of desperation. Now my cake tastes like a fancy bakery item instead of a box mix. It's humbling when you realize you've been wrong for two decades about something as simple as a dairy swap.

Wait, so you're telling me that humble pie actually tastes better with a side of coffee grounds? I guess my grandma's been right this whole time lecturing me about not knocking a hack 'til I try it. Sounds like your brother-in-law owes you a refund for all those years of wasted vanilla.

Oh man yeah I was totally the same way until I tried it and felt like such a fool!
