Shoutout to my grandma's handwritten recipe cards vs the Pinterest versions
I tried a viral chocolate cake recipe from some blog last week and it came out dry and flat, but her old card with 'a pinch of this and that' gave me the best cake I've made in years. Why can't modern recipes just say when the butter is supposed to be room temp vs melted?

Oh man, the "pinch of this and that" thing is so real... my grandma's banana bread recipe literally says "bake until it smells done" and it comes out perfect every time. Meanwhile I tried a Pinterest version that had exact measurements and it turned out like a brick. The thing that gets me is how they never specify if the butter should be softened or melted... like that's a huge deal for texture and they just gloss over it. My grandma's card has a stain where she probably wiped her hands and that's more reliable than any food blog I've found.
