My sourdough starter finally doubled in 6 hours after 3 weeks of feeding

I kept seeing people bin their starters after a week but it took me 21 days of daily feeding before it actually got active. Has anyone else had a starter that took way longer than the blog posts claim?

Kept at it with mine too, same situation. Took around 24 days for my starter to actually double in less than 8 hours. Those blog posts had me feeling like a failure for weeks. What finally pushed it over the line was switching to half whole wheat flour in the feedings instead of just white flour. Also stopped keeping it in the fridge and just left it on the counter at room temp during that whole period. Your mileage may vary but sometimes they just need a warmer spot and a different food source to get going.

Did you try keeping it in a cooler spot instead of warmer? In my experience, most of these starters just run on their own timeline and temperature barely changed anything for me. Your mileage may vary of course but sometimes they just need more time no matter what you do.
