Update on that 'useless' red filter for Jupiter

My buddy Mark in Cincinnati kept telling me to get a cheap #25 red filter for my 6-inch Dob, saying it would make Jupiter's belts pop. I thought it was a gimmick, but I finally grabbed one for $12 last week. Tried it out during the recent opposition and wow, the contrast on the North Equatorial Belt was way better than I expected. Anyone else have a simple filter tip that actually worked?

Honestly saw a thread on Cloudy Nights where a guy tested that same filter. He said it didn't do much for Saturn, but on Jupiter it really made the darker belts pop. Tbh the before and after pics he posted were pretty convincing for the price. Ngl, it seems like one of those cheap accessories that actually works for one specific thing. Might be worth tossing in the case just for Jupiter season.

Ask Mark if he uses that red filter on anything else, like Mars or Saturn. Honestly, veramiller, I'm tempted to get one now too. Did you notice if it helped at all with the Great Red Spot, or was it just for the main belts?
