Took me 5 years to realize my binoculars were out of collimation

I kept wondering why Jupiter looked blurry no matter how much I adjusted focus, then a guy at a star party looked through them for 2 seconds and said "your right barrel is off." Has anyone else used bad gear for way too long without noticing?

You ever have a buddy who swears his telescope is "cursed"? My friend used a misaligned finder scope for three years and just thought he was bad at stargazing.

Oh man, three years is brutal. I feel for your friend. I spent a whole 18 months thinking my 10x50s just had weird chromatic aberration before I realized the prisms were knocked loose during a camping trip where I dropped them in the dirt. It's like wearing glasses with the wrong prescription for years and just thinking the world is blurry. Now I check collimation every single time I take the bins out, even if they just sat in the case.
