Spent $80 on a 'deluxe' dew heater for my telescope lens and it worked so well a spider built its web across the eyepiece overnight thinking it was a cozy new home.

Has anyone else had unexpected backyard visitors attracted by their gear?

What's the big deal? That spider just found a warm spot, it's not hurting anything. Honestly, it's kind of a sign your gear is working right if it's blending into the backyard that well. You're just getting free nature content with your hobby.

Remember when people used to leave their porch lights on for moths? My old red flashlight for reading star charts did the same thing. Had a whole bat convention swooping around it one summer, thought they found a new bug buffet.

Hang on, are we really comparing bats to moths now? Bats are way more useful, they eat the actual bugs that ruin your hobby time. Moths just flutter around and die in your drink. At least the bats are doing you a solid.
