Saw that number on a random astronomy site (I think it was from a telescope maker's guide) and figured sure, whatever. So I grabbed a lawn chair, went out to my driveway around 9:30pm, and stared at the sky with no phone, no porch light, nothing. At first I could barely see the Big Dipper. Around the 20 minute mark, boom, way more stars popped out, plus a faint fuzzy patch I'm pretty sure was the Andromeda galaxy.
My question is, do you all really wait a full 20 minutes every time, or do you just get out there and wing it? I feel like I've been cheating myself for months by running back in the house to check my phone.
