Serious question, does anyone else's neighbor's porch light wreck their whole night sky?
Last Friday I set up my 8 inch dob in the backyard around 9pm, got Jupiter dead center in the eyepiece, and then my neighbor flipped on this crazy bright LED porch light that washed out everything in a 50 foot circle. I knocked on his door and asked if he could kill it after 10, and he actually laughed and said he leaves it on for his dog. So I built a light shield out of a black foam board and a couple of clamps from the garage, and it got me back maybe 70 percent of what I lost. Has anyone actually gotten a neighbor to swap to a warm bulb, or am I just building shields forever?
