Serious question, did anyone else buy a 'premium' star chart app for $40 back in the day?
I got one about a decade ago thinking it would be my main tool, but the interface was clunky and it never got updated for new phone screens. Ended up using free apps that were way better after just a couple of months. What was your biggest waste of money when you were starting out?

Honestly, that's nothing. I once bought a "professional" star filter for my camera lens that cost way too much. Tbh, it just made every light source look like a weird cross and I used it exactly once. Still bugs me when I see it in my gear bag.

That "used it exactly once" thing hits home. It's like we all have that one kitchen gadget still in its box or the fancy gym clothes with the tags on. We buy into the idea of a better version of ourselves, but the real thing just collects dust. My closet is a museum of hobbies I tried for a week.
