Realized I was picking the wrong backyard spot for months
I always set up my telescope on the patio where it's flat and easy. But last week I noticed my neighbor across the fence could see way more stars from his gravel driveway. Turns out the streetlight 40 feet away was messing with my night vision the whole time. He told me he uses a tree to block the neighbor's porch light and moves his scope around the yard for each planet. Has anyone else had a bad spot mess up their session before you figured it out?

A whole tree just for porch light block? That's dedication.

Gotta say I love it though. It looks kinda cool having a whole tree just for that one purpose. Plus it keeps the light from being too harsh or glaring right in your face. Way better than those cheap plastic lamp post things that break after one winter. The tree gives it some character, makes the yard look intentional instead of just functional.
