Pro tip: I had my red flashlight backwards for 8 months and finally figured it out at a star party in Tucson
Honestly I feel kinda silly even typing this but I bought a red headlamp back in January and thought the dim setting was just how it worked. Last Saturday at the Tucson Amateur Astronomy Association star party, a guy next to me asked why I kept flipping it on and off every 10 minutes. Turns out I had it on the white LED setting the whole time and was just holding my hand over it, which is why my night vision kept resetting and I could barely see the Orion Nebula. He showed me the little switch on the side that I never noticed, and the difference was insane, I could actually make out the cloud bands on Jupiter for the first time. Ngl I sat there for like 20 minutes just re-looking at stuff I thought my scope couldn't handle. Anyone else miss something dumb like this for months before someone pointed it out?
