I used to say a phone app was pointless for stargazing, then Jupiter changed my mind
I always figured paper charts were the only real way to learn the sky and apps were just a crutch. Then last month my neighbor pointed his phone at Jupiter from his driveway in Tucson and it labeled the four moons with their positions, and I realized I'd been squinting at my old star wheel for years when I didn't have to. Anyone else make the switch, or do you still stick with the printed charts?

Four moons labeled on a 6 inch screen in a Tucson driveway and suddenly paper charts are the villain? Phone apps help you find stuff, sure, but they don't teach you the sky, they just hand you the answer. Half the fun of a star wheel is getting lost and figuring it out yourself.
