Blew $80 on a 'light pollution filter' that did absolutely nothing for me

I got suckered into buying this fancy filter for my telescope (I think the brand was SkyGuard or something like that) from a random online shop last month. The ad promised it would cut through city glow and reveal nebulas from my backyard in Seattle. I set it up on a clear night, aimed at Orion, and saw exactly the same blurry orange mess as before. Honestly, I felt pretty dumb staring at it for 20 minutes trying to convince myself it worked. Has anyone else fallen for a gadget that was just hype? What do you actually use to deal with light pollution around here?

You tried a broad band filter for LED streetlights?

@veramiller Yeah filters are like snake oil. Same story with cheap power tools, all hype no help.
