Why does nobody mention the fake egg trick for broody hens?
I was at the feed store in Modesto getting scratch last month and an older guy in line heard me complaining about my Buff Orpington sitting on the nest for 6 days straight. He told me to drop a golf ball in there instead of fighting her, said she'd figure out it wasn't hatching and quit on her own in about 3 days. I tried it and she was off the nest by day 4, eating and drinking like nothing happened. I've been pulling hens off nests by hand for 3 seasons and making them mad, so this was a real eye opener. Does anybody else use the fake egg thing or do you go a different route?
