Warning: dropped $65 on a heated chicken waterer in Denver and it froze solid anyway
Spent all last winter fighting ice in the coop so I bought one of those plug in heated bases, and it quit after 3 weeks when it hit 8 degrees. Anyone found a setup that actually holds up below freezing, or am I better off just lugging warm water out twice a day?
Kept telling myself hauling water was too much work for way too long. Figured a heater was just the easy way out, throw it in, done. Then I went through three of them in one winter and spent more on replacements than I would have on a decent thermos setup. Started doing the warm water thing two months ago and my fish have been fine, plus I'm not waking up at 2am wondering if the power blinked and fried another one. It's more trips but it's honest work and my wallet doesn't hate me. You were right and I was wrong, plain and simple.
