Tried ceramic coop heaters vs. traditional heat lamps this winter - huge difference

I swapped out my old heat lamp for a ceramic heater in the coop about two months ago after a close call with a near-fire. My hens are way less stressed and I'm saving around $15 a month on the electric bill since the ceramic one keeps the heat more steady. Has anyone else made the switch and noticed their chickens acting calmer?

Totally agree, made the same switch last winter after my heat lamp shorted out and scared me half to death. My flock stopped huddling in the corner and started spreading out more, they just seem way more comfortable. Plus I noticed my electric bill dropped a little too, definitely worth it.

Yeah I read somewhere that heat lamps can mess with their natural sleep cycles too since it's so bright... something about red bulbs being better but still not ideal. @maryh96 you're right about the electric bill, I swapped to a flat panel heater last month and my coop feels way less like a sauna now. The birds seem calmer overall, not as stressed about finding a spot away from the direct heat.

Yep, @maryh96 basically called my own near heart attack with that shorted lamp story. I almost burned my shed down last year chasing "toasty warm" vibes for the girls. Now my coop looks like a fancy spa and my electric bill finally stopped screaming at me.
