Took me 2 years to realize I was over-watering my chickens in summer

I always thought my girls needed tons of fresh water every single day, especially when it got hot. So I'd dump out their whole gallon waterer each morning and fill it back up to the brim. Last week my neighbor came over to borrow some straw and watched me do it. She asked why I was wasting so much water because my chickens barely touched it before I swapped it out. I got to thinking about it and realized the water was sitting in the sun all day getting lukewarm and gross, and they probably hated drinking it. Now I just fill it halfway and refresh it twice a day, and they actually drink way more. Has anyone else had a stupid simple mistake like that with their flock that took way too long to figure out?

Isnt lukewarm water better for them in hot weather though?

Oh totally, lukewarm works way better in my experience too!
