That one week in June when my rooster decided to hate the new neighbor
It started Monday morning around 6am, Jake my Barred Rock rooster just lost it every time the guy next door stepped outside. By Wednesday the neighbor left a note asking if I could 'do something about the noise' which fair enough. I tried keeping Jake in the coop for two days but he started pacing and wouldn't eat much. Finally on Saturday I let him out and showed the neighbor how to toss him some cracked corn from a distance, now they're basically buddies. Anyone else had a rooster that just picks one person to hate for no reason?

Heard something kind of similar from a chicken keeper I met at a feed store last month. She had this Wyandotte rooster that would go after her mailman every single day but was totally fine with everyone else. Turned out the mailman had a bright red jacket he always wore, and apparently roosters can really lock onto a color and decide it means danger. Your story makes me think maybe your neighbor had something on or did something that first day that got Jake's attention and he just never let it go until that corn trick worked. It's wild how their little chicken brains can hold a grudge like that though. Glad you figured out a fix that avoided full on neighbor drama.

Yeah that color thing makes a ton of sense. Jake probably just saw something on the neighbor that set him off and never forgot it. Chickens are stubborn like that, they hold onto stuff forever. The corn trick was a lifesaver, I'm still glad it worked out without anyone losing their mind. Neighbor drama is the worst, especially when it's over a bird.
