Switched from a heat lamp to a brooder plate for my chicks and saw a huge difference.

After losing two chicks to a heat lamp scare last spring I tried a brooder plate and the chicks spread out way more natural under it with no hot spots, has anyone else made the switch and noticed calmer birds?

Yeah the natural spread thing makes sense, same way people spread out when they're not crowded in a weird spot.

Makes sense until you're the one stuck in the middle of it. Best trick I've found is to pick a spot near a wall or a pillar, people naturally avoid those. Also, if you need to be somewhere crowded, wear something bright so you can spot your own group fast. And honestly, just move a few steps every couple minutes, nobody cares but it keeps you from feeling trapped. It's wild how much space opens up if you just wait out the initial rush.
