Plain feed beat medicated starter for my chicks, heres why
I tried medicated starter for my first batch of chicks back in March, bought the brand name stuff from the big store in Topeka. Kept them on it for 8 weeks, followed all the instructions, and still lost 2 of 12 to coccidiosis. This spring I switched to plain unmedicated feed from the local mill and made sure the brooder stayed dry, cleaned the waterers daily, and gave them a little apple cider vinegar in their water once a week. All 15 chicks are healthy, growing great, and I actually saved about $4 per bag too. I think people lean too hard on medication when good husbandry does more. Anyone else found that plain feed plus clean conditions beat the medicated stuff?}
