I put 2 golf balls in the nest box last month and my hens stopped using it, who is right here
I read on here that golf balls in the nest box teach hens where to lay. So I put two in there. My 6 hens looked at that box like it was cursed. They started laying behind the feed bin instead. I pulled the balls out and they went right back to the box. Am I doing it wrong or is this trick just a myth? I used Titleist balls if that matters, which it probably doesn't. Just wondering if anyone else had this backfire.
Golf balls work better when you add them before the hens ever start laying. Once they've picked a spot, they get weird about changes in the box. Try a fake egg or a ceramic one next time, they seem to take those better than the shiny white balls.
