Had to choose between a plastic drinker and a galvanized one after my flock kept getting sick

I went with galvanized after losing 3 birds to algae in the plastic ones and the metal ones have been bone dry of crud for 5 months now so has anyone else seen a big difference switching?

My neighbor actually tried the plastic ones first and within two weeks he was scrubbing green slime out of them every other day. He switched to galvanized and now he just hoses them out once a month and they look brand new. I think the metal just doesnt give algae a place to grab onto like the rough plastic does.

Right, because nothing says "backyard oasis" like scrubbing alien slime out of a glorified kiddie pool every Tuesday and Thursday. Your neighbor basically signed up for a second job in biofilm removal. Galvanized sounds like the move if you want to actually enjoy your summer instead of waging a personal war against nature. I bet the plastic ones are just trying to start their own little ecosystem at this point.
