County fair judge said my coop was overbuilt, now I'm second guessing everything

Last month at the Douglas County fair I entered my coop for the first time. The judge walked past and said 'you built a bunker, not a chicken house' in front of everyone. I put $900 into it with 2x4 framing, a metal roof, and hardware cloth buried a foot deep. But his winning coop was just a basic wooden shed with wire mesh and a tarp roof. Now I'm wondering if I'm overthinking predator proofing or if he was just stuck in old ways. Has anyone else had a judge or neighbor trash their setup and then stuck with their gut anyway?

Did your judge happen to wear a straw hat and drive a pickup with a bumper sticker that says 'my other ride is a lawnmower'? lmao, my neighbor once told me my fence posts were overkill and then a coyote ate half her flock that winter.
