The level I kept in my truck bed for 8 years was off by 2 degrees

Finally used that cheap 24-inch level to square up a shed door frame in Tulsa and every single mark was crooked, so I checked it against a new one and now I'm wondering how many other builds I messed up, anyone else ever trust an old tool that was secretly garbage?

Honestly that level probably got you closer than most guys eyeballing it, and a 2 degree error over 8 years of rugged use sounds like it held up way better than any of us deserve from a cheap tool. Sure, some trim might be slightly off, but nobody notices a couple degrees on a shed door from 10 feet away, so maybe you actually got more use out of that thing than you gave it credit for.

Mine was off by a hair and I just checked it against a square I trust now when it matters. For quick stuff like hanging a picture, it's fine. The shed door thing is a good point, most people won't pull out a level on it anyway.
