The day I realized I'd been spacing fence posts wrong for 10 years
I was out in my backyard in Spokane last Saturday replacing a section of rotted fence, and I measured out from the house like always - 8 feet center to center. My neighbor Bob walks over, takes one look at my string line and says "you know those posts are gonna be off by 3 inches on the last one, right?" He showed me that I should have been measuring from the outside edge of each post, not the center, and now I'm wondering how many other basic tricks I've been missing all this time.

Yeah the "center vs edge" thing got me too. Swapped drywall layout same way for years.

That center vs. edge thing is a legit gamechanger (and it's crazy how it's never mentioned in any tutorial videos either). Now you'll start noticing it everywhere, like how trim carpenters always work from the "long point" of a miter cut.
