Rain barrel overflow flooded my new garden bed last week
I set up a 55 gallon rain barrel off the shed gutter back in March, but the overflow pipe dumps right next to the raised bed I built last month. After that big storm on Tuesday, it washed out half the soil and bent the corner board. Has anyone else dealt with redirecting overflow without a bunch of digging or extra pipe?

Read somewhere that a guy solved this by just putting a short length of flexible downspout on the overflow and aiming it at a big flat rock. The rock spreads the water out so it doesn't carve a trench. I did the same with a piece of corrugated pipe I had lying around, just wedged it on the spout and ran it about three feet past the bed. It's not pretty but it works. Also, if the board bent, that might be from the soil getting sodden and pushing it, not just the water hitting it. You could brace it with a stake on the inside until the soil settles. Water takes the easiest path, so giving it a clear one away from the bed is your cheapest fix. No digging needed if you just let it dump into some gravel or mulch.
