Pressure treated wood wasn't the problem, my expectations were
I redid our deck in Boise last summer with PT pine and within 6 months it had those surface cracks everyone complains about, so I went back to argue at the lumber yard and the guy just laughed at me, told me cracking is normal and I should've waited a year before staining. Has anyone else just let the wood weather a full season before sealing and seen it hold up better than any of the fancy coatings?

Tbh the lumber yard guy was right and it stings to hear it. Wood needs to dry out and do its shrinking and cracking thing before you trap it under a finish. If you seal it too early the cracks still happen, they just happen under the stain and look worse. Letting it sit a full season gives it time to move and settle so whatever you put on after actually sticks. The fancy coatings can't fix bad timing, that's the whole deal.
3
