Neighbor watched me frame my deck for 2 hours then told me my joists were all backwards
Had my whole Saturday planned out to frame the deck behind my garage in Boise, and my neighbor Dave wandered over around 9am and just stood there watching me for a solid 2 hours. Right as I'm about to drop the last joist in, he goes "you know those are supposed to crown up, right?" I had 14 of them crown down. I sat there staring at the whole thing for like 10 minutes, mad at him and mad at myself. Had to pull every single one, flip them, and rehang the hangers, which cost me another 40 bucks in hardware and my whole afternoon. The worst part is he was right and he knew he was right. Anyone else get unsolicited advice mid-build that you were too stubborn to hear until it was too late?
