My neighbor's one comment fixed my deck leveling for good
I spent two weekends trying to level a wobbly deck section with shims and those plastic pads, kept getting it close but not right. My neighbor came over, looked at it for maybe 30 seconds, and said 'you're fighting the joist, not the ground.' He had me dig out 4 inches of soil under the low side and pour a small concrete footer instead of messing with surface pads. That was last month, and now that corner hasn't moved a hair, even after all the rain we got this week. I was overthinking it with fancy leveling systems when the real fix was just putting the weight on solid ground. Anyone else had a simpler fix that made them feel dumb for not seeing it sooner? How do you guys handle low spots under existing deck posts?

Concrete footers crack too, then you're digging again.
