My neighbor's "just use deck screws" advice cost me a weekend and 40 bucks
He swore deck screws would hold my gate hinges fine, but after three days the screws stripped right out of the cedar posts and I had to redo the whole thing with carriage bolts, so has anyone else had a "quick fix" from a buddy turn into double the work?

Deck screws are for decks, not gate hinges, different shear strength.
