My neighbor Dale said to just pour the concrete against the dirt, no forms. Dale has never been more wrong about anything.
I was putting in a 10 foot walkway behind my garage in Rochester last month and Dale, who has lived next door for 30 years and owns a lot of tools, swore forms were a waste of plywood. So I poured 14 bags straight into a dirt trench and it slumped into a lopsided mess overnight. Three days later I chipped it all out with a pry bar and redid it with real forms and it came out dead flat. What is the worst advice a helpful neighbor has ever given you?
