I built a 10x12 shed in my backyard here in Springfield last month and I was planning to just set it on concrete blocks on bare dirt like my dad always did. My neighbor Rick came over while I was leveling and asked why I wasnt putting down a gravel pad first. I brushed him off because I figured it was just extra work and money, maybe $150 for the gravel and landscape fabric. Then he walked me over to his shed which he put in back in 2018, same size, and pulled back the edge to show me the gravel was still clean with no weeds poking through and no sinking on any corner. Mine would have been shifting within a year with our clay soil and the way water pools back there after every storm. I ended up digging out 4 inches, tamping it down, laying fabric, and packing in about 2 tons of crushed stone. Took me a full Saturday but the shed hasnt budged a bit through two heavy rains since. Anyone else here fought the gravel pad idea and then changed their mind once you saw one that held up?
