Guy at the lumber yard said my deck stairs were 'a trip to the ER waiting to happen'
Built a set of stairs off my back deck last month and thought they looked fine, until the guy loading my lumber at the yard in Tacoma looked at the photo on my phone and said the rise was off on the bottom step. He said anything over 7 and 3/4 inches is a toe catcher and mine was sitting at about 8 and a half on that last step. I went home and measured and he was right, so I tore that step off and re-cut the stringers with a consistent 7 inch rise all the way down. Cost me a Saturday and about $60 in new lumber but the steps feel way better underfoot now. Anyone else get called out by a total stranger and end up glad they did? Curious how you handle uneven ground at the bottom of a run.
