Found out my fence posts need to be 3 feet deep not 2
I read an article from the local building supply that said for our clay soil here in Ohio, fence posts should go 36 inches deep to avoid frost heave. I was planning on 24 inches like my neighbor did, but now I'm worried his whole fence will shift this winter. Has anyone else run into this with clay soil?

Put mine 36 inches deep in Ohio clay three years ago and zero shifting so far. Your neighbor might be rolling the dice with 24 inches come February.

My uncle put his at 18 inches and now his fence looks like a drunken snake every spring.
