Built a backyard gate with a diagonal brace, and it sagged anyway after 3 weeks
I built a cedar gate for my side yard last month, about 4 feet wide, and I put a diagonal brace from the bottom hinge corner up to the top latch corner because that is what every video says to do. Three weeks later the latch side is dragging on the ground and I have to lift it with my knee to get it closed. I think my problem is I bolted the brace to the frame boards but never checked if the frame itself was square before I hung it, so the whole thing was already racked. Did I mess up the brace direction, or is my post just sinking in soggy ground and I need to pour a real footing?
